Enterprise UX for Modern Lab Management

Enterprise UX for Modern Lab Management
THE CHALLENGE
Agilent Technologies had recently acquired iLab, a startup focused on lab management and operations. As part of a newly formed digital group, the opportunity was clear: bring modern, web-based experiences to a traditionally hardware-driven organization — and establish a scalable UX foundation from the ground up.
Product interfaces were inconsistent, reactive, and lacked a cohesive visual or interaction model. At the same time, the broader customer experience was fragmented across software, web, and physical touchpoints. We needed to elevate design maturity, align teams, and deliver polished, purpose-built tools that could scale.
MY ROLE
As the UI / UX Design Lead, I served as the embedded design expert for a growing software portfolio:
Established the visual and interaction design direction for modern lab management tools
Created scalable design patterns and systems that aligned across product, web, and hardware
Collaborated cross-functionally with engineering, product, marketing, and industrial design teams
Defined a UX roadmap and prioritized usability enhancements in partnership with leadership
Advocated for human-centered design as a strategic function, not just surface-level polish
THE APPROACH
As a team of one, I embedded UX deeply into product development workflows — identifying quick wins, advocating for usability improvements, and building trust through measurable impact.
To support scale and consistency, I created a modular design system adopted across internal platforms and marketing-facing websites. Alongside this, I built a UI/UX roadmap to guide enhancement priorities and clarify expectations across engineering and business stakeholders.

UI / UX roadmap of UI enhancements
I partnered closely with the industrial design team to align digital interfaces with physical hardware workflows — and with the marketing and .com team to unify branding and UX across all user touchpoints. This collaboration helped create a seamless experience across digital and physical platforms.
Modernized, Web-Based Interfaces
THE IMPACT
